Meet Beth
Welcome to City Life to Farm Life, a place where I share tips on how to go from city living to farm life. I share my learnings on things I wish I would have known before moving to the country, vegetable gardening, and raising backyard chickens. (I’m obsessed with my feathered friends!)
My name is Beth Kourik and I am a city girl at heart. I grew up and lived in St. Louis, Missouri for the majority of my life. The neighborhood I lived in was 15 minutes from downtown and I spent quite a bit of time (and money) going to as many St. Louis Cardinals baseball games as I could! I loved being so close to everything and there was always something new to do around town.
Eventually I moved 30 minutes outside of the Twin Cities for my husband, Scott. I wasn’t as close to a downtown as I was used to, but the town we lived in had everything we could possibly need. All that changed, however, when my husband, who grew up in Houston, decided he wanted to start a Christmas tree farm.
Shortly after, we bought a home in small town Wisconsin on 25 acres with big dreams. We had a lot to learn.
To be a farmer is to be a student forever, for each day brings something new.

Our Story
Scott and I bought our home on 25 acres with the dream of starting a Christmas tree farm. With the help of my amazing stepchildren, we were able to plant 6,000 trees by hand within 2 years!
Unfortunately, our city background left us significantly underprepared for our new farm life adventure. With only 60% of our trees surviving, we knew we had to pivot and change direction with our hobby farm. And while we do still plan to sell them in a few years when they are fully grown Christmas trees, it’s still a bit sad.
Fortunately, we don’t give up easily! Now I’m on a mission to help others better prepare themselves for farm life. Join us on our journey – as former city dwellers – where we share our tips and lessons learned on how to seamlessly transition from City Life to Farm Life.
